STRATEGIC FOCUS:

EDUCATION ENGAGEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

PROBLEM STATEMENT

There is a significant gap in STEM education and awareness of career pathways among students, limiting their ability to pursue careers in the growing STEM industry. Addressing this requires collaboration to create robust STEM education programs and initiatives that provide students with a clear understanding of potential career pathways.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

STEMfooty translates South Australian kids’ love of AFL into an appreciation, understanding, and passion for the science and mathematics behind it. It is a free 10-week program targeting year 7 students, offering over 30 hours of innovative in-class learning which delivers 50% of the annual mathematics and science Australian Curriculum Standards (ACARA).

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

STEMFooty is a 5-unit resource of classroom and practical activities with suggested alignment to Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) delivered in the following stages:

Stage 1: Teacher professional development – 1 day

Stage 2: 10-week curriculum including a week 5 visit from AFC players and staff to deliver the practical component of the program

Stage 3: Extension and group work challenges. The program is fully subsidised by the Crows Foundation for category 1 – 4 schools on the Department for Education’s disadvantage index.
