HEALTH, WELLBEING AND RESILIENCE
Children living with disabilities are at higher risk of reduced physical activity, which can negatively impact their physical and mental health. Barriers to physical activity include lack of access to facilities, limited opportunities, and lack of support. Addressing this requires increasing access to inclusive physical activity programs and promoting awareness and support for physical activity.
A four-week football program aims to help young people with special needs to increase physical activity levels while forging new friendships. Participants experience a range of football clinics aimed at having fun, challenging self and meeting new friends.
The program is designed by the Adelaide Football Club’s coaching department to provide a fun and inclusive football experience aimed teaching fundamental movement, skill development and team work.
The program offers a high staff ratio comprising of AFL and AFLW players, AFC coaching staff and occupational therapists to maximise the participant experience.
Parents are provided with a range of resources connecting them with adaptive sports offerings within their Local Government Area so children can continue their sporting journey following completion of the Inclusive Academy.
