Crows stars get behind Boots for Boxes campaign

Crows leaders Lachie Murphy and Mitch Hinge and AFLW player Deni Varnhagen are encouraging fans to donate football boots to help disadvantaged children across South Australia experience the joy of sport.

The Adelaide Crows Foundation is again teaming up with Treasure Boxes for the Boots for Boxes campaign which aims to offer children equal opportunities to participate in sport by repurposing football and soccer boots for kids without access.

The Boots for Boxes campaign is now into its fourth year and ensures that all kids get a chance to participate in group sports and that good quality football and soccer boots are reused, supporting the environment.

Boots in wearable condition can be donated at the Adelaide Football Club reception and the Treasure Boxes Edwardstown facility.

Sport has been proven to play a pivotal role in improving young kids’ physical health, concentration and confidence, teaching life skills and reducing stress.

The players visited the Treasure Boxes warehouse on Monday where Murphy said removing barriers to participation was incredibly important to ensure more kids could benefit from playing sport.

“For some families buying boots can be a challenge and unfortunately this is often a reason why kids are unable to participate in sport,” Murphy said.

“All kids deserve the chance to play the game they love, so I really encourage everyone to get behind such a great cause.

“Donating boots that are now too small or buying a pair for the new season from Treasure Boxes is a great way to support kids in need.”

With the junior footy season about to get underway and many kids growing out of last season’s boots, families are encouraged to purchase pre-loved boots for only $20 from the Treasure Boxes warehouse.
